Personal Training

In-home personal training with INSPIRE provides accountability, motivation, guidance, and structure toward your fitness goals.

INSPIRE creates personalized strength training programs with the goal of functional fitness at its core.
What is functional fitness? Most of us don’t understand until we get hurt that something as simple as getting out of the car can lead to injury. Functional fitness has exactly this in mind; it’s preventative strength training. We want you to learn the exercises and correct techniques to keep your joints strong and limber. Aging doesn’t have to mean sitting in a rocker because your body isn’t what it used to be; it doesn’t.

Typically, two paths lead to working with us:

  1. Continuing your journey after completing physical therapy - which focuses on healing your injury - because you now want to strengthen your whole body as a means to bring it back into balance and avoid reinjury.

  2. Choosing a wellness path to aging by strengthening and stretching to increase your mental well-being and avoid injury when doing common everyday tasks, playing pickleball, or powerwalking at the mall.

YOUR program will be geared toward your ability and interests
while enjoying the convenience of training in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

What’s the difference?
Personal Trainer VS. Physical Therapist

  • Personal Trainer

Personal trainers work with you one-on-one to help design an engaging exercise regimen, help you with form, ensure you are working all your muscle groups safely, and more. The accountability of meeting your trainer for a set appointment can help stay on track and meet your goals. Personal trainers are excellent resources for beginners who need help getting started as well as for more seasoned exercisers who want to push themselves further.

  • Physical Therapist

Physical therapists work with patients in two timeframes: preventively and reactively. Preventively, they work to avoid injury, pain, and loss of mobility by developing fitness/wellness programs incorporating exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. Reactively, they evaluate patients for pain, lack of mobility, weaknesses, imbalances, and functional deficits. After that evaluation, they develop an individualized plan of care that may involve exercises; therapeutic massage; modalities such as ice, heat, electrical stimulation, cold laser; or some combination of all of those interventions. In both cases, they reassess both the plan and the patient over time and make changes that fit a patient’s needs.

Benefits of in-home personal training?

  • You make the most of your time when you hire an in-home personal trainer. There's no packing a bag of clothing and gear, no traveling to the gym, and no searching for a parking spot. Your trainer arrives at the scheduled time, and you spend your allotted time working out. When time is tight, in-home personal training lets you spend more time getting fit and less time in transit.

  • Admit it. Working out in a public gym can be intimidating if your body is less than perfect. It can feel like all eyes are on you--especially the parts that jiggle when you move. An in-home personal training program lets you work out in the privacy and comfort of your own home. You control the temperature, the music, and the cleanliness, and you get to exercise without an audience.

  • In-home personal training typically focuses on exercises requiring little or no gear. If you already own fitness equipment, your trainer can include it in your workouts. And if you don't have any gear, don't worry; your trainer will bring everything you need for a great workout. You'll learn to be fit anywhere: at home, at your in-laws' house, in a hotel room, in your office.

  • In-home personal training gives you one-on-one attention from a trainer with no distractions. The personal training you get at a gym or rec center is often standardized and not exactly personal. When you hire an in-home personal trainer, you'll get a fitness program tailored just for you. It will work around your limitations and help you reach your fitness goals quickly and efficiently.

  • Personal trainers will cheer you on and force you to push past those voices telling you “that you can’t do it.” Instead, they’ll keep you motivated and check in with you, helping to make fitness part of your habitual routine.

  • Personal trainers are tasked with creating creative routines based on your body, goals, and capabilities, so you don’t have to worry about curating your fitness schedule. Instead, you get to step back and let the professionals handle the activity.

  • A lot goes into proper form when weights are concerned, which is why it can be dangerous to pursue this kind of exercise without professional oversight. Personal trainers will correct your form repeatedly until your body grows accustomed to doing things correctly.

  • It's easy to talk yourself out of a trip to the gym. But when the trainer shows up at your door, all your excuses are out the window. Your scheduled appointments will keep you on track toward your fitness goal, and your trainer will help keep you motivated to exercise.

Urban Poling

A
Low-Impact,
Full-Body,
Heart-Healthy
Workout

Walking is one of the best exercises you can do. However, it’s time to spice things up. We are excited to introduce Urban Poling, also known as Nordic Walking, to our clients and community! We love it, and you will, too, because you get more out of each walk, hike, and exercise routine with it.

Nordic walking originated in Finland and has been popular in Europe for decades. The poles provide added support and improved balance allowing for more muscle engagement per step.

Benefits of Urban Poling

  • Cardiovascular Health

Provides a 25% increase in cardiovascular activity. Since you are using more muscles as you walk, your body must work harder to pump blood and oxygen throughout your body. As a result, your heart and lungs get stronger and more efficient, making everyday activities easier, and you can recover quicker from any form of exercise.

  • Burn More Calories

Simply walking around your neighborhood or on a trail, enjoying the scenery, socializing with friends, and your body benefits. According to research studies, urban poling burns up to 20 to 46% more calories than standard walking. What a benefit!

  • Improves Core Strength

Your abs tighten each time you push off with your poles. That’s the equivalent of 1,000 abdominal contractions every kilometer or 1,800 each mile! A strong core creates a foundation for proper gait and makes doing regular day-to-day activities easier and safer.

  • Improves Balance

Those with balance issues or who have low confidence in walking longer distances feel supported by the poles and can maintain their physical health longer. Those without balance issues gain an increase in stability from the added core strengthening.

  • Happy Knees + Hips

The poles let you offload weight from your hips and knees into your upper body. You can walk further, faster and pain-free!

  • Improves Posture

Using the poles and arm movements helps with walking posture. You are less likely to slouch, which increases the benefits that you get from your walking exercise.

  • Poles are Multipurpose

Yes, you can walk with the poles, but they can also be used for balance retraining, hiking, exercise modification, travel, and specific programs for Parkinson’s, diabetes management, and Seniors!

  • Works Your Upper Body

Urban poling uses 75 percent of your muscles— especially those underused upper body muscles. Hello, short sleeves!

  • Boosts Cognitive Function

Studies show that aerobic activities such as Nordic walking increase blood flow in the regions of the brain responsible for learning and memory. The more efficient these areas of your brain, the better your cognitive skills, like learning, memory, and thought, will be.

Home Safety

Feel empowered, not overwhelmed, with aging-in-place.

With loved ones living longer and needing more care, many families struggle with the best way to help an older relative. More than three-quarters of US adults age 50 and older want to remain in their current homes for as long as possible. But a May 2020 study by the US Census Bureau found that less than ten percent of US homes are “age-ready,” meaning they have a step-free entryway, a first-floor bathroom, and bedroom, and at least one bathroom with accessible features, i.e., grab bars or shower seat.
